We are very privileged to welcome the very successful local company, Campsie Glen Smokehouse, to our Business Directory.

The family business can boast three generations of Hebridean tradition, and inherited family recipes for curing, drying and smoking, to ensure the most authentic, and delicious, Scottish seafood produce available to buy online.

Most recently their products were judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.

Recognised as a stamp of excellence among consumers and retailers alike, Great Taste values taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging. All products are removed from their wrapper, jar, box or bottle before being tasted. The judges then savour, confer and re-taste to decide which products are worthy of an award.

Campsie Glen Smokehouse was awarded a 1-star Great Taste award, which means judges dubbed it simply delicious, for 2 of its products, Smoked Salmon Island Cure and Smoked Trout Lowland Cure. The judges described the smoked salmon as “A firmly textured fish with a good level of smoke, well-judged salt, lovely lingering taste and a slightly unexpected sweetness”. Their comments on the smoked trout were “Lovely looking fillet with good firm texture. The cure is really helping the flavour of the trout come through and a lovely subtle smoke is giving a great rounded flavour.”

Being a young family business, we are especially pleased to have received 2 awards from the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards at our first attempt. Following our success in being awarded the Artisan Seafood Producer of the year by Delicious Magazine for our Island Cure Smoked Halibut last year, we have now won major national awards for our salmon, trout, and halibut products. This is especially pleasing for us, and a recognition of the time and effort that goes into developing quality products for a discerning market place. Cathie, my wife, and I are both from the Isle of Lewis, although now based in East Dunbartonshire, and our Island background influences our product development quite strongly. Two of our award winning products contain seaweed that has been harvested from the Isle of Lewis. These awards really increase our credibility as a producer of top quality products and give our existing, and potential, customers a reassurance that they are stocking the best products.

Great Taste 2017 will reach its exciting finale on Monday 4 September, when the world of fine food gathers at the Intercontinental Park Lane Hotel, London to find out the Golden Fork winners for each region at an Awards Dinner, with the final applause reserved for the Great Taste Supreme Champion 2017.
