What is hypnotherapy?
“The mind is powerful, and you have more control than you think.” Scott D. Lewis
If you think of your brain as an ocean, then the conscious part of your brain is the surface of that ocean, while the great watery depths represent the subconscious brain. The subconscious is deep, vast and largely unexplored.
We use the conscious brain every day to make decisions and process thoughts, and this is the part of the mind that you are aware of. The elusive subconscious mind quietly records every little thing that ever happens to you in life, and controls the involuntary functions, habits and emotional aspects of our behavior.
Both the conscious and subconscious mind work in tandem, and if not working well together, problems can surface such as anger issues, a poor relationship with food or perhaps seeking destructive relationships.
Patterns of behavior are programmed into the subconscious from the earliest age, and we absorb what is around us: emotional conditioning, experiences, fears, and anxieties.
Hypnotherapy allows an entirely natural and deeply relaxed state that taps into the recesses of the subconscious mind, an area that we cannot usually access. When in this relaxed state, the brain wavelength changes and the subconscious becomes open to suggestion. This part of the brain is incredibly powerful and without agenda. The hypnotic state allows the subconscious the ability to accept solutions
Through guided suggestion, we can eliminate limits placed by the conscious mind. This can change thought patterns and effectively re-boot an aspect of your behavior that is making you unhappy or causing issues.
Hypnotherapy is an effective clinical treatment for a whole range of problems ranging from stress, anxiety, overeating, smoking cessation to phobias and self-destructive behavioral patterns.
Anxiety & Stress Relief
The terms anxiety and stress are often interchangeable, but there are a number of conditions that fall very specifically into the anxiety bracket. These include:
-
Agarophobia
-
Generalized anxiety
-
Obsessive Compulsive Disorders
-
Panic Attacks
-
Claustrophobia
-
Social Phobias
-
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
At its core, anxiety can make us believe that things, or a situation, in life is far worse than it actually is. We all experience it at a low grade (it’s part of our hormonal makeup, and connected to the release of stress hormones), but certain life events or triggers can tip us over the edge. Sometimes the cause is not clear to the sufferer, but it’s a very distressing condition. Stress, on the other hand, will wax and wane with the event in our lives.
Hypnotherapy can be of great value for a number of issues, including;
- anxiety & stress relief
- smoking cessation
- weight loss
- relationship problems
- exam stress
Claire uses a very friendly and relaxed approach with her clients, and the session is guided by the needs of the individual.
So-Hypno Hypnotherapy is for everyone. Hypnotherapy is a clinical tool that allows you to tap into a powerful and underused part of the brain. With guided suggestion, it is possible to re-boot and reprogram unhelpful behavior patterns and ways of thinking. Clients feel relaxed, unburdened and uplifted at the end of a session.
The only caveat is that the desire to achieve the end result must be there.

The Old Mill
The Old MillKillearn Village GastropubAbout
The Old Mill bar and restaurant has a rustic ambience, with a modern twist. Within the pretty rural Stirlingshire village of Killearn, this gastropub is within view of the stunning Loch Lomond and close to Glengoyne Distillery. The 18th century former weaving mill retains the old world charm of exposed beams and an open fire, but has had a facelift to ensure a comfortable, relaxed and contemporary feel.
“Since taking over, under my guidance as executive head chef and patron, we have undertaken some extensive renovation works in the bar and restaurant as we strive to create something a little different with the Old Mill, somewhere you can relax and experience an amazing fun and lively atmosphere, eat and drink the best local, responsibly sourced Scottish produce.”
Mark Silverwood
The Old Mill, Killearn, is a bar and restaurant with much to commend it to visitors and locals alike. It has a lively bar area, and gastro-style pub dining with something to cater to all tastes, as well as a beer garden and off-road parking.
The Old Mill Pub
A large selection of premium lagers and ciders is complimented by guest ales from local craft brewers; Houston Brewery, Fallen Brewery, the Loch Lomond Brewery. The wine wine list offers a good handpicked variety of world wines. If you don’t want to drink alcohol, the Old Mill offers a large selection of loose leaf teas, and all the staff are barista trained by Brodies of Edinburgh coffee.
The Old Mill Kitchen

The garden is popular for alfresco lunches and dinners on warmer days, and the Yurt, which is cojoined to the restaurant, provides an alternative and atmospheric dining space. Both can be booked as venues, and lend themselves beautifully to small weddings and events. With a little imagination and some tea lights, the area is transformed. The Yurt can accomodate a party of approximately 30, and the new large canvas awning covers the entire garden area if wished.
Weddings & Events
The Old Mill is a fantastic venue for those looking to create an intimate celebration that is special, and possibly reflects a rural, rustic or vintage feel. The Yurt looks beautiful bedecked in fairy lights, and with a few simple flower arrangements and tealights, will make a stunning backdrop for any wedding or party. The chef & kitchen team can put together a menu to suit your tastes and budget.

The Tree Inspector
The Tree InspectorProfessional Tree Inspection for Householders, Public Bodies, Country Estates, Protected Areas, Developers, Property Managers and Insurance Companies. Contact: Chris CalveyAbout
C. A. Calvey, P.T.I., Tech.Cert (Arbor.A), Cert.Arb (RFS), BA Hons. Consulting Arborist Society (Professional Member)
Chris is one of only a handful of qualified tree inspectors in Scotland.
Chris carries out tree inspections across Scotland. While your local Tree Surgeon is likely to be a highly skilled tree worker, few are qualified inspectors, and it is vital to know you are legally covered when it comes to trees on your property.
Professional and friendly, Chris is well known in his field of work and advises home owners public bodies, country estates, Protected Areas, developers, property managers and insurance companies.
Home Owners
Every home owner should be aware that they have a responsibility when it comes to the trees on their own land. Tree owners are responsible for trees on their land and have a legal duty of care. It might be a tree is next to a footpath or road, or is at the boundary of another property, and can pose a potential risk to the public or another property. A tree inspection for £150 can save you many times that amount in the long run, and unecessary tree removal will cost in the region of £500.
Existing tree owners should have inspections carried out if no inspection has been carried out as soon as possible. With mature trees, an inspection every three years is recommended. Prospective homeowners should have the trees on a property inspected before purchasing a new home as a tree problem could be expensive to solve or have damaged the building in some way. Sometimes banks and mortgage companies require home buyers to get a survey before purchase. A tree inspection is particularly important if mature trees are in the grounds or near the buildings.
Never undertake tree work yourself or allow an amateur to do it because you think it will save you money. Tree work is potentially highly dangerous, requiring skilled craftsmen often high above ground level using special equipment. This equipement can only be used legally by a certificated and competent person. Do not leave yourself open to risk, avoid injury to yourself, other people, damage to your property, and legal action – household insurance will not protect you.
