Linked magazine has been doing the usual searches to try to bring together a collection of events happening in the area (and beyond, to keep it interesting!). Hope you find something to inspire you to get out there and embrace the fun events happening this summer
Social In The Gardens,
August 2nd-3rd, Ross Open Air Theatre, Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh
This free two day, family friendly event showcases high quality goods and services from a selection of Edinburgh’s 260 social enterprises – businesses where profits go to support communities and social change.
With an exciting programme of live music and performance events, a pop up market, art exhibition and installations, storytelling, book readings, kids activities and a family ceilidh each afternoon all in the centre of Princes St Gardens.
Ignition Festival of Motoring
August 4-6th, SECC, Glasgow
IGNITION is a true celebration of all things motoring and our specially constructed street circuit gives you the unique opportunity to get up close to the sight, sound and smell of everything from rally cars to Formula 1, supercars to classic cars, motorbikes and all things wacky and wonderful.
This year’s event will pay homage to Scotland’s rich rally heritage by uniting some of the sports’ most famous icons in our Rally Gods spectacular. Boasting an impressive six World Rally Championships between them, legends Ari Vatanen, Markku Alen, Miki Biasion, Timo Salonen and Stig Blomqvist will bring their championship winning cars to the streets of Glasgow for an unmissable rally spectacle, with more drivers still to be announced.
We’re also launching the outdoor Ride and Drive Zone including off road driving experiences, test drives, a young driver experience, and the chance to have a go on electric motocross and trials bikes. The indoor IGNITION arcade is another new addition for 2017, packed with activities for all the family. Have a go at Remote Control drifting, virtual reality, simulators, gaming areas, remote control truck racing and more.
The Lanrick Challenge
August 5th, Doune
With support from the Royal Marines from 45 Commando an exhilarating 6km and 12km course has built on Lanrick Estate offering an exciting yet punishing series of 48 obstacles including mud ponds, log piles, cargo nets, river crossings, tree climbs, monkey bars and a 30 meter water slide. Designed to include as much of the natural landscape as possible the undulating terrain and natural beauty of the estate makes this event different to others. Although challenging it’s not as extreme or frightening as the Tough Mudder – there’s no electrocutions or ice baths!!
Battle of Bannockburn Battlefield Walk
August 5th, Glasgow road, Stirling, FK7 0LJ
Follow in the Footsteps Of Robert The Bruce, Douglas and Randolph.
Examine the terrain where “Proud Edwards Army” spent their last night in Scotland for a great number of years.
Locate the two areas of battlefield the Dryfeild and the Carse debated by Historians.
Lasting around 4 hours the walk, led by our military expert, puts you in the mind of the soldiers and commanders on both sides of the battle.
August 5-6th, Royal Highland Exhibition Centre, Edinburgh
If you are a kid, or a really big kid, then this is super-exciting. Loads going on at this event, with trucks, more trucks, monster trucks and arena displays to please every truck aficionado. Live music in the evenings, a few minor celebrities popping by and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers doing their thang.
Colourfest 2017
August 5th, Braehead Arena, 5pm-4am (OVER 18s)
As Scotland’s longest running dance festival, the event is a staple part of the clubbing calendar for ravers, and this year it boasts six arenas hosted by the likes of Hardstyle Superheroes, GBX and of course, Colours.
Mini Arena Event in aid of Riding for the Disabled

Whether your kids can ride or not, this is a super friendly event, with lots of equestrian classes to watch and its all in aid of a great cause.

Bring your children (age 6 – 12) to have fun with Wendyhouse at our pottery workshops to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of working with clay.
What we do:
- learn how to be sensitive to the nuances of shaping clay with your hands by learning some ancient but still used hand building means for making a pot.
- make / decorate a variety of pots using either pinching, coiling, slab building and wheel throwing techniques
- understand how to be sensitive to the nuances of shaping clay with your hands.
- try a variety of decorating and shaping techniques and improve manual dexterity whilst having fun

Thursday 10th August 1:30pm – 3pm
Bugs, beetles, butterflies and bumble bees! Lenzie Moss Local Nature Reserve has them all. Join the Ranger Service and hunt for minibeasts in the woods and grassland. Meet at the far end of Lenzie Railway Station car park or follow the signs to find the Ranger. Donations welcome.
Get your Hands Dirty, Kirkintilloch

Wear your wellies and help take care of Merkland Local Nature Reserve. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet the Ranger in the Reserve car park off Merkland Drive, Kirkintilloch, G66 3SF. Free.
Mugdock Superdog 2017
Sunday 13th August 2pm – 4pm
Can you control your canine companion in the countryside or is your best friend just barking mad? Try out our crafty agility course and fun contests. All dogs welcome, but beginners only, please. Meet in the overflow car park near the Visitor Centre. Cost £2, with proceeds going to Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre.

Gargunnock Beer Festival
August 14th, The Gargunnock Inn, Gargunnock
Beer swilling, music, face painting, BBQ and lots to keep everyone happy.
We host our beer festival on the second sunday of August. It has been running for about 8 years now. We try to showcase many local ales, aswell as a few from further afield.There is always at least 2 bands playing on the stage during the day. The BBQ will be serving traditional grub along with a few different items, and our restaurant will be turned into a popup BBQ and smokehouse restaurant serving beer and BBQ inspied dishes. Its always a great day and there is lots of undercover seating if the weather is not what we are hoping for. Children are welcome, and this year we will have a photobooth, with a prize for the best photo uploaded to facebook.
Linked Magazine is a kitchen start-up enterprise, with one person writing all the articles, content, What’s On guides and Directory listings.
Taking everything local online, within a central digital hub, this makes everything local easily found with one click. Businesses in the area are easily found online by a target audience already searching for their specific services or products within a given area. News and events, easily found with one-click. A digital magazine offers a new and vibrant addition to the community.
The hope is that the local community and businesses will support the ethos and ideas behind Linked Magazine.
The only revenue is the Business Directory, which is to remain very affordable (only £10 per month), to ensure a level playing field so that every local business can afford to be represented.
The magazine includes a free listing for all local clubs and societies, jobs and events. I am also providing free journalism workshops to local S5/S6 High School kids, and am open to other suggestions.
