Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park
With wild scenery, snow-capped peaks, lochs, wildlife and the best of food and drink, there can be few better places to choose for a romantic escape in Scotland. We look at six options in, or close to, the Loch Lomond National Park that we think offer escapism, views & comfort.
East Lodge Cabin on the Loch, Loch Venacher
This little gem is within the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park and is situated on the banks of the stunning Loch Venacher. Close to the popular tourist hub of Callander, and the pretty settlement of Brig o’ Turk, there are some lovely little shops and eateries in the area.
There is a fantastic private deck to sip a glass of wine and look out onto the magnificant mountains of Ben Ledi & Ben Venue, or cosy on the sofa on wet and wild days to watch the changing light on the landscape.
The south shore of the Loch Venacher has a vast area of forest, which has a network of cycling and walking trails.
Puidrach Cottage, Balquhidder
A stunning setting, this stone cottage ticks the box for a romantic escape for two. I can almost taste my G&T as I take in the stunning Scottish scenery. In the winter months there is a woodburning stove and, being a roomy cottage with a bunk room, it is possible to take the kids if you feel you must.
Balquhidder is the resting place of the notorious Scottish outlaw Rob Roy McGregor, and is a stunning little hamlet.
Both a glen and village, Balquhidder is located west of the A84, between Strathyre and Lochearnhead. The kirkton or village lies at the head of Loch Voil and has the remains of a number of pre-historic sites including a stone circle, the Puidrac Stone, and a Neolithic burial chamber cairn to the east. The glen extends 12 miles west passing Loch Voil and Loch Doine before the road ends with a public car park. Balquhidder in Scottish Gaelic is Both Chuidir or Both Phuidir meaning the hut of ‘Cuidir’. LLNP
The Kist, Balfron
This is the perfect setting for those that like a stunning rural setting, but also appreciate style, modernity and convenience. The Kist is very centrally located and a short drive takes you to Loch Lomond & the Trossachs. With some lovely villages nearby (a local taxi service is available), enjoy a night of eating and drinking at local gastropub The Old Mill, Killearn. Local distillery Glengoyne is open to visitors and well worth a visit. The Kist offers the perfect base for exploring the area, without being too remote. Lui Cottage, Balloch, Loch Lomond
With sweeping views down to Loch Lomond, and the mountains beyond, this cottage is a perfect choice. Hidden down a wooded country drive and within a small private estate, the cottage is cosy and comfortable and offers an outstanding escape for couples.
Close to Balloch, the area has so many activities to offer. Balloch offers a number of boat trips to take visitors the length of the loch, and to view the scenery from this perspective is highly recommended. As a special treat, try a flight with Loch Lomond Seaplanes to get a birds eye view of the breathtaking landscape.
Idyllic Loch Lomond Cottage, Balmaha
Balmaha is right on the shore of Loch Lomond, and sits beneath Conic Hill, with Ben Lomond towering in the distance. A very pretty choice, there are walks and boat outings galore, with the cottage sitting right next to the famous West Highland Way long distance path.
